SDA Delivers fair pay for 20 year olds
Go Back- 17th April 2014
I’m pleased to report that your union has had a big win for younger workers in the 100% Pay at 18+ campaign.
The Fair Work Commission has backed our claim, ruling that the General Retail Industry Award should be changed to ensure that 20-year-olds are paid full adult rates.
100% Pay for 20-year-old workers will be phased in from July 1 this year, bringing them in line with other adult workers by 2015.
We couldn’t have done this without the thousands of people working together to support the campaign all around Western Australia. Thank you to everyone who has been involved so far.
I’m also pleased to report that the campaign has passed more than 40,000 supporters who have signed up on the campaign website. It’s a huge achievement - we’re showing Australia that people care about paying younger workers fairly.
You might be wondering what happens now.
We’ve succeeded in stage one, but we still need to fight for 100% pay for 18 and 19 year olds workers too. To do that, we need to keep up our efforts.
If you haven’t joined the campaign yet, sign up today at http://100percentpay.com.au/. If we show support is growing, the more likely we will achieve fair pay for 18-19 year olds.
This is a huge win for union members in Western Australian – congratulations and thank you for your support.
Thank you for your continued support.
